The issue of the race of the Ancient Egyptians has been a contentious topic for a long time. While some believe that the Ancient Egyptians were white, there is increasing evidence that suggests that they were, in fact, black.
One of the most compelling arguments for the blackness of the Ancient Egyptians is anthropological evidence. Anthropologists studying the remains of Ancient Egyptians have found that the physical characteristics of the Egyptians are consistent with those of black Africans, including dark skin, broad noses, and thick lips. Furthermore, the Egyptians’ hair and facial features were consistent with sub-Saharan Africans rather than with Europeans or other white populations.
Another evidence that suggests that the Ancient Egyptians were black is their own artwork. In most of their paintings and sculptures, they depicted themselves with dark skin. Their pharaohs and gods were often depicted as black, and they used colors to represent their different ethnicities. This suggests that they identified themselves as black, or at least recognized the importance of blackness.
Also, historians and scholars who have analyzed Egyptian texts have noted that they frequently referred to themselves as “black” or “dusky.” Additionally, Afrocentric scholars have argued that the Ancient Egyptians were part of a larger black African civilization that included Ethiopia, Nubia, and other ancient civilizations.
All these various pieces of evidence suggest that the Ancient Egyptians were black, not white. While the debate about the race of the Egyptians will continue, these findings provide powerful support for the claim that the Ancient Egyptians were part of the black African community.
